Poet Doctor is an independent medical humanities research institute studying medicine as a human practice.

Through physician writing, historical archives, digital methods, and AI-era inquiry, it investigates how medicine understands itself and how the theory and practice of doctoring may evolve.

Our approach

We work across poetry, scholarship, archives, and AI-era inquiry. Each is a method for studying how physicians have worked and written. We study physician writing from about 1350 to today. We read each era, including our own, as evidence of how medicine understood fact and ethics at that time. We ask what, if anything, connects those eras.
